If you have been thinking of installing a water filtration system for your home or a new home, you may realise that not all filters are created equal. Different water filters will filter different contaminants out of water. Some filters add substances back into water. Some can make your water taste better, some clarify your water, some make water smell better, some filter out germs and parasites, others can filter out harmful chemicals.
It’s easy to default to the type of system your plumber recommends, but it’s a great idea to have some basic information to guide the decision, so you can make the decision together. Systems vary considerably and with some prompting you may realise that you have more preferences for your water than “I need a water filter tap”.
