PH Modification

Many organisations have advertised health benefits of alkaline water, claiming improving gut health, lowered blood sugar, and improving hydration for athletes.

Water can vary in pH level, and can be made more alkaline.

Water pH level can be tested with a litmus test, such as convenient water testing strips. For people with water pH less than 6.5, some may look to make the water more basic, to between 6.5 and 8.5. Water of a pH greater than 8.5, is often referred to as ‘alkaline water’.

One of the most straightforward methods of elevating pH is to pass the water through a filter bed of natural, granular alkaline material, either in a filter cartridge or loose directly in housing in larger whole-house systems. These filters are referred to as neutralizing filters, or pH correction filters. The alkaline material (media) is usually calcium carbonate or magnesium oxide, or a combination of both. This will balance the pH and increase hardness of water.

Freshwater Systems have pH neutralising filtration solutions for both under-sink and whole-house filtration.

  • Ecosoft p’URE Balance 6-stage reverse osmosis
  • Ecosoft p’URE Balance filter
  • Calcium carbonate media filtration, which can be added to whole house filtration system upon request
