Choosing a Water Filter
What should you consider when choosing a domestic water system?
Your answer to these questions may reveal consideration beyond just a normal drinking water filter tap. Perhaps you are considering reverse osmosis system now, or perhaps filtration in more than one room.
Some questions you may ask yourself can help guide you in the right direction:
- Why is filtered water important to you? Is it for improved taste alone, or are there more concerns you have over chemicals and contaminants in water?
- Do you want soft water in more than one outlet in your home? Such as for showering, to reduce skin dryness and give you softer hair and improved sudsing? Or for dishwashing, to remove residue on glassware and plastic containers? Or for streak-free car washing?
- Are there particular issues you have with your water supply that you would like to address? For example, higher levels of chloramine that is added to water on the Fleurieu Peninsula, which may be irritating on skin and aggravate conditions such as eczema.
- Do you have concerns over fluoride being added to water supplies?
- Do you feel minerals are better to be removed from your water, for higher purity and less taste contamination, or included in your water for possible health benefits?
- Do you want any particular qualities in your water? Such as high alkaline because you’ve been told it’s beneficial following cancer treatment?
